Introduction:

Screenworks has teamed up with the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) to bring their popular ASSISTANT DIRECTING FUNDAMENTALS short course to the Northern Rivers. Spaces are limited to 20 people and priority is will be given to  NSW regional practitioenrs.  Attendees will need to complete the registration process and answer the questions to be considered for a place. Cost is $20 for both days for Screenworks members and $40 for both days for Non-members.

What will I learn?

An understanding of challenges of coordinating a film set and the nitty-gritty, day-to-day stuff you need to know to be a great AD. Attendees can expect to learn about the roles & responsibilities of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Assistant Director roles during both pre-production and production. Course content will cover:

  • Breaking down a film script
  • Developing a shooting schedule
  • An introduction and demonstration of the Movie Magic software
  • Managing the film set & the Assistant Director team
  • Working with actors and extras
  • Liaising with all departments
  • Communication and using 2-way radios

Is it right for me?

This course is being offered to regional practitioners with some on-set or production office experience and who are keen to get onto shoots as floor runners, PAs or Third ADs.

However, if you are keen to work and up-skill in the Screen Industry, with a view to eventually being a Director, Producer or First AD , you'll gain valuable and current industry knowledge and skills.

Spaces are limited so priority will be given to Northern NSW locals in the first instance before opening up spots to  regional NSW practitioners and finally regional Australian practitioners.

Metropolitan candidates won't be considered for a place.
