You have a treatment or script, how do you start to put a budget and schedule together for it?


This course will introduce emerging filmmakers to the mechanics and thoughts behind budgeting and scheduling from a script or concept.


July 19th & 26th and August 2nd | 12.30pm - 2pm



You will be led by an experienced producer, using one of their own short form projects as a case study to give the principles and practices discussed a basis in reality.

It will include practical examples as well as guidance and everyone will get the chance to ask questions throughout.


EXPECT TO COVER:

  • Ball parking costs and schedules
  • Tips for breaking down a script or directors treatment
  • What and how much should be included for each line item
  • Difference between ATL and BTL costs
  • Negotiating quotes, eg: crew hours and post production
  • Balancing creative ambitions with budget constraints
  • Contingency/ Dealing with overspends
  • How does this vary from genre to genre
  • Drawing up a feasible production schedule – how does this affect your budget (and vice versa)
  • How to cost out your post production 
  • How to work out post production schedule and workflow
  • Using schedules and planning that will help you find an audience (Festival entry tips,EPKs, social media strategy)

Demistifying line items, partial weeks, where to get the info on crew costs, how to create useful estimates and get quotes, and what to do when inevitably you can't have it all.


WEBINAR 2, WEDNESDAY 26th JULY , 1230-2.00pm:

Scheduling and Planning

Covering off schedules and how they work with budgets, locations and availabilities. How to manage all the parallel and competing tensions that arise during planning stages. Which department needs what info? How to plan for success at every stage pre, production and post.


WEBINAR 3, WEDNESDAY 2nd AUGUST , 1230-2.00pm:

Delivery, Cost Reporting and Execution

Covering off post workflow, deliverables, doing a cost report and acquittals, film festival and online strategy, socials and how to harness the capacity and experience you've built with your crew, cast and creatives.
