Make it in FNQ: FROM CONCEPT TO GREENLIGHT

Developing an idea to the level where it can attract development or production financing can be a challenging journey for independent and early-career creatives. There are also numerous support and funding avenues to navigate.
Screen Queensland in partnership with Screenworks is presenting Make It In FNQ: From Concept to Greenlight to unpack the process when it comes to project development and pursuing funding opportunities.
Ian Lynch, Content Director at Screen Queensland will offer insights into:
· practitioner and project support available from the state's screen agency
· funding streams, eligibility and tips for preparing a competitive application
· how you can best take advantage of all that the agency offers for Queensland creatives.
Dan Mulvihill of Mad Dan Productions (Townsville) and Roaring Entertainment (Brisbane) will also share his experiences and perspectives as an independent screenwriter and producer — from his early web series through to his first feature film, A Savage Christmas.
Dan has worked with screen professionals, funding bodies and private investors across his production slate and will illustrate the innovative ways he has approached project development and funding through some thought-provoking case studies.
A Q&A session will complete the event, with attendees encouraged to ask questions of the guest speakers, followed by networking.
One-on-one Pitch/Mentor Meetings will also be available with our guest presenters and Screenworks CEO Lisa O'Meara from midday on Friday 14th April. Booking information will be forwarded to the registered attendees.

Speakers
What links Boris Johnson, endangered elephants, crazy architecture, Oklahoma tornadoes, binge drinking, Steve Jobs, Al Qaeda hostages, airport expansion, earthquakes, human rights abuses, ballroom dancing and the Iraq war? They’re some of the topics documented by Ian Lynch in a career that spans two decades in shoots around the world. Polemics, investigations, obdocs and formats have all helped to hone Ian’s skill in the documentary space.
He joins Screen Queensland after a career in the UK, as well as working on projects for US and Australian broadcasters. Ian is an experienced producer, director, and manager of teams in the creative production of network broadcast, online, and streaming content. His Australian credits include the ABC’s Foreign Correspondent and Four Corners, as well as work for SBS and Audible Australia. His international credits include the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITN, Sky, Discovery, National Geographic, PBS and HGTV.
Dan is passionate about creating edgy, comedic, and challenging work for the screen. He is a writer, director, and producer at his company Mad Dan productions. In 2017, Dan completed co-writing and producing the 6x10min online series 'Sexy Herpes', funded with the assistance of Screen Australia. 'Sexy Herpes' has been acquired by Channel 9 and Virgin Inflight entertainment and recently won Best Ensemble at Dublin Web Fest. In 2019, ‘Monsters of Many Worlds’, was released on SBS via an initiative in collaboration with Screen Queensland. He is developing a new female-driven and culturally diverse online series set in FNQ, called 'Blood Sisters' with backing from Screen Australia and Screen Queensland. Dan has developed a myriad of FTV projects that were screen ready across 2022 and in early 2023, Dan completed principal photography on the feature film - ‘A Savage Christmas’- which he co-wrote and produced with Roaring Entertainment. It is scheduled for worldwide release in late 2023.
