A Different View — Q&A with Murray Lui and Jimmy Purtill
Time: 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm
In this Q&A session, we explore storytelling from a production perspective. Screenworks Lisa O'Meara moderates a discussion with two renowned Townsville-based filmmakers – cinematographer Murray Lui and — producer and owner of Mangrove Media, Jimmy Purtill
Murray and Jimmy will take us behind the scenes, revealing their process of creating quality drama and documentary productions in North Queensland and beyond. Together they will explore the value of a good team, effective planning, logistics and the right equipment to capturing that award-winning shot.
Jimmy draws on his extensive experience and network of local talent to pull together the right teams to produce award-winning work that have been screened on national broadcasters, cable TV networks, streaming platforms, and at documentary festivals.
Murray, who was the first Torres Strait Islander to graduate with a Master of Arts in Cinematography from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), recently served as the principal photographer on the crime drama series Black Snow by Goalpost Pictures and Stan, and Irreverent by Matchbox Pictures for Netflix.
