Case Study Q&A:

Screenworks in conversation with Wooden Horse on distinctive storytelling opportunities

Time: 9:30 am – 1:00 pm

Screenworks CEO Lisa O'Meara will moderate a panel with Sydney-based production company Wooden Hose, together with award-winning writer, actor, radio host and comedian, Matt Okine (The Other Guy, Mother and Son), to discuss the process of bringing regional stories to the screen, building a slate and setting up a successful production hub.

Wooden Horse is the creative force behind the Stan Original documentary The Cape (filmed in Cape York), Disney+ psychological thriller The Clearing, the reimagining of beloved Australian series Mother and Son and the emotionally-charged sports documentary Rose Gold.

Producing top-rating and critically acclaimed narrative and factual stories for prime time, free-to-air and streaming platforms, Wooden Horse is lead by industry executives Jude Troy (a former partner in independent distributor, Hopscotch Films and production exec at eOne) and Richard Finlayson, (former Director of Television at ABC and Chief Operating Officer at SBS).

In this session, you will gain insight into how a local story is selected by a production company and developed through to commission and then shepherded into production and postproduction and onto screens locally and internationally. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn about Wooden Horse's future production plans for the Queensland region.
